Guillaume Bottazzi, art in situ, émaux sur verre réalisés pour BNP Paribas à Marseille en 2022

Marseille, France, enamels, delivery: 2022

BNP Paribas has commissioned two 3 meter high works from the artist Guillaume Bottazzi in Marseille’s 6th district, which will become part of the city’s heritage. They are located just a stone’s throw from the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde basilica, often referred to as “la Bonne mère”, protector of Marseille. On a listed site since 1917, it overlooks the city and the Mediterranean Sea from the top of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde hill.

The materials are durable, able to resist the vicissitudes of time, antisocial behaviour, the sun’s rays, wind, etc…
The reputation of the coordinated teams, but also of the installers, craftsmen and technicians, is well established as regards their excellence.

About neuroesthetics – Interview with Guillaume Bottazzi on TV Finance

This painting relates to a poetic and neurological approach specific to the artist’s work. By introducing artworks of neuro-aesthetics, it contributes to the well-being of the inhabitants.

When we look at a painting, we feel emotions and sensations, in part because art provokes chemical reactions in our brain.
In 2019, the World Health Organisation published a report based on 900 publications. The results show that art has an impact on health. It provides psychological, physiological, social and behavioural support. This painting helps to reduce sorrow and stress, and also changes our brain. It makes us happier, healthier and enhances human potential. It provides solutions for well-being and health.

Guillaume Bottazzi, art in situ made of enamels, Grand Paris, 2021

Grand Paris, enamels on glass, September 2021

This quadriptych makes spaces poetic and puts the human being at the heart of our concerns. Life-size sketches were used as a pattern before laying down the powder composed of different minerals in suspension on the glass. This project is the result of a collaboration with the architectural firm RVA.

Enamel is a powdered natural material composed of different minerals, such as silica, feldspar, kaolin, metal oxides, titanium, copper carbonate, cobalt, iron oxide, manganese, tin and others. The pigments are deposited on the glass, suspended in a volatile oil. It is when the glass is tempered that the fusion with the enamels takes place.

Tempering consists of bringing the glass to a high temperature by passing it through a furnace, until it reaches a temperature close to its softening point: between 550 and 700° C, depending on its composition. The surface of the glass is then rapidly cooled by immersing it in a low temperature bath.

Once tempered, the glass is usually laminated. Unlike print on glass, enamels are extremely durable and are highly resistant to UV-ray, scratching and chemical agents.
