In Neuilly-sur-Seine, “La Galerie Peretti” opens its doors three months ahead of schedule. A collaboration between Bouygues Immobilier, Seqens and Novaxia Développement, the building features backlit works by Guillaume Bottazzi, proving that art can enhance our well-being and help make us happier.

Push open the front door of the “La Galerie Peretti” building, located at 124 avenue Achille Peretti in Neuilly-sur-Seine, and you’ll be immersed in an unprecedented sensory experience, an unreal universe that links neurobiology and art in our living spaces.

Bouygues Immobilier and Novaxia Investissement commissioned Guillaume Bottazzi, an artist who has been working for over 30 years in Europe, Asia and the United States, and who has created over 100 works of art in public spaces, to create twenty-two permanent backlit works that change your behavior.

The Galerie Peretti building opens its doors three months ahead of schedule, with Guillaume Bottazzi’s final brushstroke. These works animate the space, fill it with wonder and immerse you in a poetics of space that facilitates the appropriation of places, since space does not exist in itself, but is the fruit of a projection, according to the physicist and philosopher Gaston Bachelard.

This project is the mark of a profound change that is transforming our environment. Science and health today validate that the elements around you influence and act on you, so as to modify your behavior and even your “human heritage”.

With their curves, the creations of Guillaume Bottazzi, recognized as a pioneer in neuroesthetics, soften our spaces. The artist has already created over a hundred environmental works in public spaces that promote your happiness. In his art, he uses tools that are increasingly part of your environment.

About the “Galerie Peretti” building

The “Galerie Peretti” building is a former Citroën car garage that has become obsolete, and has been recycled into a residential complex. Located in the immediate vicinity of the Pont de Neuilly station, the 4,600 m² project has resulted in the production of 56 housing units: 39 for first-time buyers, including 9 in dismemberment, and 17 social housing units managed by Seqens. The project is designed to meet the demand for high-quality housing, while at the same time providing a supply of low-cost housing in the commune.

La Galerie Peretti” is a joint project by Bouygues Immobilier, Seqens and Novaxia Développement, designed by ORY architects and demonstrating the partners’ commitment to urban recycling.

Profound transformations before your very eyes, without you even realizing it!

Since 2019, the benefits of art for mental health have been confirmed by the World Health Organization. Numerous studies on the subject enrich our knowledge every day in this field, and Guillaume Bottazzi’s creations have themselves been the subject of a scientific study entitled “The art of curves in the real world: a psychological look at Guillaume Bottazzi’s art”, which proves that his creations promote your well-being, helping to make us happier. In fact, neuroaesthetics is taking off on a global scale.

Many human problems, such as depression, which affects one in five people, are considered to be multi-causal, and our environment will have a mission to reduce them.

How does “La Galerie Peretti” enhance human potential?

For a start, these immersive works produce dopamine. They activate neurotransmitters in your brain that directly influence your behavior. The production of dopamine creates a sensation of pleasure, a system fundamental to your survival, as it motivates you to take actions and adopt behaviors that are necessary for your survival. This molecule encourages risk-taking and the triggering of the reward system.

Guillaume Bottazzi’s creations also promote the secretion of serotonin, a molecule produced by neurotransmitters. Serotonin reduces our anxiety, relaxes us, and decreases nervousness, worry or discomfort.

Serotonin

Often referred to as the “happy hormone”, serotonin is involved in mood management and is associated with happiness. When serotonin levels are balanced, it reduces risk-taking and encourages you to maintain a favorable situation. It is essential to your survival.

The artist’s creations can act on your orbitofrontal cortex, which helps modulate your social behaviors, i.e. your ability to manage situations with other individuals. These areas are also linked to feelings of love and desire, according to neuroscientist Semir Zeki.

Oxytocin

These works promote the production of oxytocin, and recent studies have begun to suggest that oxytocin may play a role in various behaviors, such as your orgasms, social recognition and empathy, hence its nickname “attachment hormone”.

Mirror neurons

These works can activate mirror neurons, which are the same ones we activate when we look at someone we love, which explains why they can reduce your feelings of loneliness.

Experiments have shown that the wealth of sensory stimulation that surrounds you promotes the development of your brain. Other studies have shown that the quality of your environment can facilitate your self-fulfilment and your withdrawal from addictions.

New neurons

These works encourage the modulation of new neurons, in other words, they make you smarter and enable you to take more distance from things, according to the research of neuroscientist and Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel.

“I’ve long dreamed of painting with light, and the sensory power of my poetic works has the power to make people dream and feel good,” says Guillaume Bottazzi.

Ecological materials and sustainable development

The materials used to create these works are natural and made using enamels. These are powdered minerals deposited on tempered and laminated glass. Enamel is a powdered natural material composed of various minerals, such as silica, feldspar, kaolin, metal oxides, titanium, copper carbonate, cobalt, iron oxide, manganese and tin. The materials are durable and stand the test of time. The bases are made of lacquered wood and the LEDs are low-energy.
